Unknown, Bordeaux Itinerary 589.4-6

   https://caesarea-maritima.org/testimonia/60

Context

The earliest firsthand account of Christian pilgrimage that survives was written by an unknown man from Bordeaux in southwestern France (Roman Burdigala) who travelled overland to Syria and Palestine in 333-334 C.E. His account, which is organized as a strict itinerary according to distances between sites, notes topographic associations with the stories in the Hebrew and Christian bibles and recounts local tradition. This passage calculates the trip from Caesarea Maritima to Jersualem.
