Context
Among the voluminous correspondence of St. Jerome is this letter, which
he wrote to Minervius and Alexander, two monks in Toulouse (Roman Tolosa). They had asked
him to analyze several scriptural passages and he replied with commentary on two, the first
being I Corinthians 15:51. On the topic Jerome quotes from Acacius, the
controversial bishop of Caesarea during the mid-4th century.
Text
Acacius,
Caesareae, quae prius Turris Stratonis
vocabatur, post Eusebium Pamphili episcopus, in quarto Συμμίκτων ζητημάτων libro proponens

Acacius, who after
Eusebius Pamphili was bishop of Caesarea, which was formerly called
Strato’s Tower, in Miscellaneous Questions 4 posed
this same question to himself and debated it rather extensively. Looking unfavorably on both
options, which he considered opposites, after the first part, which we have left out, he
spoke as follows: “Let’s talk first about the subject found in many books: Behold I speak to
you of a mystery! Indeed we shall all sleep, but we shall not all be changed. …"
