Context

St. Jerome undertook to write a universal history of the world early in his illustrious career. His work translated and annotated the second half of Eusebius’ work, finished over a half century earlier, which was organized into a tabulated concordance of chronological schemes (χρονικοὶ κανόνες) ranging from Abraham to Constantine I; he continued Eusebius in the same format with his own historical compendium for the years 327-378 C.E. This passage from Jerome’s translation of Eusebius covers the start of Nero’s reign, including events in the governorship of Judaea, which was headquartered in Caesarea, and in the life of St. Paul.
