Context

St. Jerome undertook to write a universal history of the world early in his illustrious career. His work translated and annotated the second half of Eusebius’ work, finished over a half century earlier, which was organized into a tabulated concordance of chronological schemes (χρονικοὶ κανόνες) ranging from Abraham to Constantine I; he continued Eusebius in the same format with his own historical compendium for the years 327-378 C.E. This passage from Jerome’s translation of Eusebius covers the start of Nero’s reign, including the Jewish uprising of 55 C.E. in Caesarea.
