Τετάρτῳ γε μὴν τοῦ καθ’ ἡμῶν ἔτει διωγμοῦ, πρὸ δώδεκα Καλανδῶν Δεκεμβρίων, ἣ γένοιτ’ ἂν μηνὸς Δίου εἰκάδι, προσαββάτου ἡμέρᾳ, κατὰ τὴν αὐτὴν Καισάρειαν, γραφῆς ὡς ἀληθῶς ἄξιον, αὐτοῦ δὴ τοῦ τυράννου Μαξιμίνου παρόντος καὶ θέας τοῖς πλήθεσι φιλοτιμουμένου κατὰ τὴν λεγομένην αὐτοῦ γενέθλιον ἡμέραν, ἀπετελέσθη τοιοῦτον1
Translation
In the fourth year of the persecution against us, on the twelfth day before the Kalends of December, which is the twentieth day of the month Dius, on the day before the Sabbath, while the tyrant Maximinus was present and giving magnificent shows in honor of his birthday, the following event, truly worthy of record, occurred in the city of Caesarea.2
