Eusebius of Caesarea, Dictionary of Place Names 78

Context

In his lexicon of place names in Hebrew Scripture, Eusebius wrote that Dor of Nafath named at Joshua 11:12 is located near Caesarea Maritima. He also cited the Greek translation of by Symmachus in the late 2nd century C.E. The same information is recorded in the parallel passage at Jerome, Book of Places 79, written roughly one century after Eusebius’ work.

Δῶρ τοῦ Ναφάθ. Σʹ Δὼρ “τῆς παραλίας”, αὕτη ἐστὶ Δῶρα ἡ πρὸς Καισάρειαν τῆς Παλαιστίνης ἀπὸ σημείων θʹ ἀπιόντων Τυρὸν, νῦν ἔρημος, ἣν οὐκ ἔλαβεν ἡ φυλὴ Μανασσῆ, ὅτι μὴ ἀνεῖλεν τοὺς ἐν αὐτῇ ἀλλοφύλους.1

Translation

Dor of Nafath. Symmachus: Dor “by the Sea”. This is the Dor near Caesarea Palestinae, nine milestones away for those travelling to Tyre, now deserted, which the tribe of Manasseh did not take because they could not expel the foreign tribes there.
